Dr. Allen Kalpin, MD

Dr. Allen Kalpin is a general practitioner and psychotherapist who provides therapy, clinical supervision, and addiction medicine care. Known for his thoughtful and integrative approach, he combines decades of medical experience with specialized psychotherapy training to support patients through complex mental health challenges. After many years in general practice, he completed six years of intensive training and supervision in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) with Dr. Habib Davanloo.

He has been deeply involved in the emerging field of psychedelic medicine, working extensively with ketamine therapy as a treatment for mood disorders and trauma. He is also engaged in psychedelic research exploring new, evidence-based approaches to healing.

Dr. Kalpin is a recognized leader in his field. He is the current president of the International Experiential Dynamic Therapy Association (IEDTA), a founder and past president of the General Practice Psychotherapy Association (GPPA) of Canada, and moderator of the long-standing STDP Email Discussion List, a global forum for clinicians.

As an experienced teacher and supervisor, Dr. Kalpin is currently developing Mindfulness-Informed Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (MI-EDT), a new model that integrates mindfulness with experiential and psychodynamic approaches.
